Precautions: Remember to administer each dose with a full glass of water. Do not take Lipitor with grapefruit juice. Taking Lipitor with grapefruit juice can lead to dangerous side effects. During your treatment, your doctor may need to perform simple blood tests to monitor your liver function. Before you begin taking Lipitor, be sure to inform your doctor about any medical conditions you have. You may not be able to take Lipitor, or you may require special monitoring during your therapy if you have an active liver disease or possible liver problems. Also, women who are pregnant, could possibly become pregnant, or are breast-feeding should discuss with their doctor the potential risks involved with taking Lipitor.
Side Effects: Lipitor is well tolerated by most patients. The most common side effects are constipation, gas, indigestion, and stomach pain. These side effects are not serious enough for you to stop treatment. If you experience more severe side effects such as unusual muscle pain or weakness, stop taking Lipitor and consult with your doctor immediately. This could be a sign of a serious side effect.
