 VIOXX
is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is used to treat inflammation,
swelling or soreness caused by arthritis and menstrual pain, in addition to pain
caused by surgical procedures. Clinical trials of about 3600 people have found
that Vioxx is an effective pain medication for 24-hour menstrual pain treatment
and arthritis pain relief. Vioxx pain medication works by targeting the COX-2
enzyme, while sparing the Cox-1 enzyme, which is responsible for protecting the
delicate lining of the stomach. Traditional anti-inflammatory medication targets
both enzymes making it harmful to your stomach. Eventually prolonged use can lead
to gastro-intestinal side effects including dyspepsia, bleeding, ulceration and
perforation of the stomach.
Some of the some of the series rare side effects experienced by patients who
take Vioxx include: liver problems, allergic reactions, difficulty breathing,
kidney problems or failure, and stomach problems such as intestinal bleeding.
Tiredness, dizziness, nausea, heartburn, high blood pressure, back pain, and urinary
tract infection are some of the more common side effects associated with the drug.
